The War Machine I remember was a Korean guild from Guild Wars that were unreal. They were #1 or 2 in the world when we were playing.

Ideally, what we'd like to do is choose an offbeat server like Nezekan or Zikel (doesn't matter) and then make some formal posts on various forums announcing said server to be a community for quality and competitive pvp with strong interest in roaming 6 man groups as well as the large faction battles when needed for fortresses and artifacts.

I remember DAoC fondly because of such servers that fostered the group vs group mentality in specific areas (emain was generally zerg territory). Those have always been great servers and I think it would behoove us to endorse such a community/server. Getting the word out ahead of time gives other like-minded guilds an opportunity to join us in this endeavor.

If this sounds like something Combine is interested, or any other guild that peruses this forum, then by all means let us know so we can get started on spreading the word. I'm sure all the servers will be filled come release, but my gut feeling is without a strong following only Siel and Israphel are going to have enough end game guilds that will compete.

If this doesn't pan out, we will likely just end up on Siel and I would much prefer the former.

Roaming 6 man is always the most fun. Id be much more excited to play if I knew that would be the focal point of end game. Right now I am kinda expecting it to just be massive zergs trading keeps like Warhammer and that was boring as shit. Fuck keeps.

I'm posting this across various forums.

Those of you who played DAoC can recall how many servers endorsed roaming and group vs group pvp in specific areas while the zergs stayed in others. Seeing how Aion shares many of the same characteristics as DAoC we (The Combine and PfB) want to put together a community that fosters such an environment. We wanted something away from the random masses to select a more private server that heavily focuses on competitive group vs group and guild vs guild pvp. We chose Nezekan.

Let me explain a little bit about our thoughts on the server. Our hope is to eventually designate a certain area of the map (some place not often travelled) that is reserved for group vs group pvp. This opens up the rest of the map for everything else like normal. We understand not everyone is going to follow this, but most will respect it. This creates a great opportunity to build a competitive environment for all aspects of the game especially the large faction battles at fortresses and helps foster a great community on both factions.

Regardless of how it turns out, we will try and hold weekly events for things like roaming pvp nights, arena style tournaments, and etc. We have done this in the past with games from Shadowbane to World of Warcraft. Here is an example of some of those events we've done in WoW pre-tbc.

We invite anyone who is serious about competitive pvp to join us in this endeavor and help create the best pvp server, for both group vs group and faction vs faction, in the game.

Elyos
The Combine
Uprising
DoO
Virtue
Marked Soulds
Coup D'Etat
Knights of Two Moons

Asmodian
PfB
Nameless
Corruption
Zizon
Sins
WRATH
Covenant

Unconfirmed
Soldiers of Bria
IceClan

There isn't a lot of room in the Abyss for there to be a place not often traveled. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but I don't think it really has any chance of being respected in any way by anyone outside of this little click. If people think they can zerg roll you for AP, they will. People will take the easiest way to AP and they won't care at whose expense or rules they violate.

I think in DAOC this might have been a bit more reasonable because having 3 different frontiers left a lot of space that was less travelled on, but there is 1 Abyss and it is not on the same size as the collective DAOC frontiers.

The last few games we have played took a beating because of population issues, of course partly due to faults with those games. That being said, I would prefer not to be on some backwater server in the hopes someone respects these rules.

Taysosis he makes a great point however.

Low pop is not fun regardless. Picking a low pop server to play a battleground of clique's is kinda retarded. Pick the server you think will be the highest pop and most long lasting. Anything else is just stupid. That's what i am going to do. Does that mean i'll roll siel? No, but i want to play on one of the top 2-3 high population servers

I didn't say I wasn't going to play, I was simply pointing out a few items for the sake of discussion. Most likely, I don't think any of the original servers we have been given so far will end up being low population given how popular the game sales have been. They will probably have to open more servers shortly after release anyways to accomodate people.

So at what point is it you want to make your decision as to which server you'll play on? 2 days after release?

Our point is to make a decision ahead of time and hopefully our presence will draw enough of our niche community to make it worth playing on a server other than Siel. Nezekan will probably be a top 3 community...and now it's been declared the unofficial roleplaying server which will ensure even more of a population.

You hit the point on the head with this post...your first didn't even mention the fact that there is only 6 US release servers, yet you were worried about us being on a backwater server from the outset. That was ignorant. The fact we are trying to gather on a server other than siel is a good Idea.

None of us expect zergs to stay away...but I'm pretty sure 2-3 groups of solid players can shit stomp a raid of terribads in this game. The fact is we are aiming to establish a community more focused on competitive pvp, than just wandering around in a zerg capping keeps.

Take your niche and pick a higher populated server. That's the bottom line imo

There's one RP guild that I've seen calling for Nezekan. RP or not I could care less...in fact they may be more apt to respect a "roaming" pvp zone more so that others. I mean if they can be fanatical about RPing, one would think they would respect others fanatical ideas as well.

Is there any info on server capacity? I mean if say 10 guilds roll on our server, which sounds like a respectable amount, totalling couple hundred people, and server capacity is like 10k it's still only 2-3% of the server pop and just a drop in the bucket really, same with RPers. I don't think our effort will impact gameplay on the entire server in any way to make it different from other servers. It's just that instead of fighting randoms we'd be fighting against people we've known and gamed with for years. We might be overthinking this.

Server selection is always the roll of the dice. Anything else is overthinking it. It's futile to believe you can dictate the design of what will happen on a MMO server.

True, but we can always tip the balance. I've dropped some new threads over several forums which are sure to draw many more like-minded guilds over to Nezekan.

Siel is just going to be a shithole of wannabe's.
