Things are heating up. I'm sure those who intend to play have been following aionsource and know that a few randoms declared Siel as the main PvP server. Normally, we'd follow suit and excitedly jump at the chance to play on that kind of server, but we aren't so sure it will be. Nobody has really declared a server yet, though there are some random guilds dropping names here and there. Ebonlore was on Israphel for beta and it can only be assumed they will stay there.
My problem with Siel is that it is beta server #1 and there will be way too many randoms rolling there and uppity wow guilds playing there that quality pvp might not be readily available. What we, PfB, really want in a server is a dedicated community to quality and competitive PvP through roaming 6 mans. Like DAoC there are reasons to zerg at times and people can satiate their lusts during fortress raids, but many servers became noted for their excellent 8 man groups that roamed specific areas of the frontiers. I don't think Siel will foster that community, so what does everyone think about endorsing another server, let's say Nezekan, to cater such kinds of pvp? We are pretty torn in PfB, so I thought to maybe bring the conversation here and see what other like minded guilds thought. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Those of you who played DAoC can recall how many servers endorsed roaming and group vs group pvp in specific areas while the zergs stayed in others. Seeing how Aion shares many of the same characteristics as DAoC we (The Combine and PfB) want to put together a community that fosters such an environment. We wanted something away from the random masses to select a more private server that heavily focuses on competitive group vs group and guild vs guild pvp. We chose Nezekan. Let me explain a little bit about our thoughts on the server. Our hope is to eventually designate a certain area of the map (some place not often travelled) that is reserved for group vs group pvp. This opens up the rest of the map for everything else like normal. We understand not everyone is going to follow this, but most will respect it. This creates a great opportunity to build a competitive environment for all aspects of the game especially the large faction battles at fortresses and helps foster a great community on both factions. Regardless of how it turns out, we will try and hold weekly events for things like roaming pvp nights, arena style tournaments, and etc. We have done this in the past with games from Shadowbane to World of Warcraft. Here is an example of some of those events we've done in WoW pre-tbc. We invite anyone who is serious about competitive pvp to join us in this endeavor and help create the best pvp server, for both group vs group and faction vs faction, in the game.

Personally, as much as I enjoy going up against well geared and organized teams, the allure of these unofficial pvp servers is starting to fade. I didn't like Archimonde, I didn't like whatever server we were on in AoC (remember all the smack talk about how BG9 will dominate oldtimers, then they were gone within a month?), random server in WAR (Volkmar) turned out to be one of the most competitive and balanced servers of them all, while Dark Crag was full of NAPs, and some horse shit morality, and all kinds of rules of engagment.
I think a handful of competitive guilds with history of sticking around picking a server through PMs a day or two before release after it's clear who's going where and doing their own thing, away from the masses of self proclaimed PvP guilds, 90% of which aren't worth a damn, results in a better environment long term, instead of either going with the herd and falling into the mass exodus trap of the premiere pvp guilds within a few months of release. |

Our concern isn't fighting all the boasting guilds, we're looking for people who will play competitively with a similar interest in game play. We dont' care if we're on "THE PVP" server, 1.) we just want to make sure we end up somewhere, that people have a desire for competitive pvp, not just 40v40 zerg fests, or 2 guilds that fight, and everyone else is off pve'ing. and 2.) if we stick this game out, we want to make sure we are on a server that is still alive and thriving 6 months down the road. Volkmar turned out great you say, but it also eventually died off along with almost every other server in WAR outside of dark crag.
Perhaps we are of a different mind though, I loved archimonde, once it calmed down. I enjoyed Deathwhisper from AoC...unfortunately, the game sucked. PfB is going to be playing Asmodian...that much we can tell you. so take that for what it's worth. |

Well if all you want to do is just 6 man you probably dont want to fight us. We will most likely have multiple groups running and a lot of time side by side if WAR is a good indicator. We are going Elyos. I welcome to competition but dont bitch if you run into more than 1 group of us at any given time.

I plan on 6 manning like crazy, playing aion long term, and have a static 6man already set up, but that's not the point of the thread. I hope we all end up on an active server with longevity, I even hope it's the same one, but in my opinion it's too early to plan anything, wait til scrubs pick the server they want to infest, and then head the other way, hopefully bringing along some competition. In the end not my call to make, but i think that's what most guildies and leadership is leaning towards.

And there is no doubt we'll have more than a single 6 man running...whether we are side by side is going to be dictated by the server composition. |

I think we are looking for similar things here Darkane. Not many of us are interested in zerg warfare. However like Ormus mentioned we will be fielding a decent group of people so we'll certainly have our days where we'll have more than 6. Although there is certainly a lot of interest in running 6 man roaming throughout Combine.
As far as a pick we're up in the air still. Not likely it will be Siel, or Israphel (lol Ebonlore), Nezekan not off the list for any reason that I can see yet. Let's keep up the info and as things develop we can possibly land in the same spot.

Here is the current server list for EU and NA. I think they'll have more for release. Haven't seen anything about different rulesets for different servers yet...
EU 1. Ariel 2. Azphel 3. Mesramtaeda 4. Fregion 5. Ereshkigal 6. Beritra NA 1. Siel 2. Israphel 3. Nezekan 4. Zikel 5. Vaizel 6. Triniel Some are trying to hype Siel as "Teh PvP Server!!" so that one should obviously be avoided...

Ok but no official ruleset variations, right? Go with Zikel then. Why? Because it starts with a Z. Who doesn't love that? Zzzzzikel.

Darkane has reached out. Why dont we just agree to choose the same server as them. That way we have at least 1 guild that we know is likely to stick around.
I do like the idea of fighting Ebonlol too though.

On Zikel is that Serenity the guild that broke up an in-game funeral in WoW? That was funny. Never mind, I see it's not. Most of those guilds are meaningless names.

The only 2 guilds ive heard of from that list are WRATH and War Machine, and both are random new guilds in Aion and not the real guilds from DAoC and Guild Wars, lol.

we've gone through just about every guild/server list we could find and the general consensus was :
1.) They were guilds we didn't know. 2.) They were guilds we didn't know that used names from old guilds we did know. 3.) They were guilds we knew and they hadnt declared yet. 4.) they were ebonlore or super skill arena wow guilds. PS, there was a War Machine in AoC and WAR...but i think they were different than the old guilds. |
